The Bowmen of the Blue Lion was formed when Longbowmen of the Bournemouth Archery Club, were offered their own shooting ground at Somerley in Hampshire. The club now comprises men and women, shooting longbows comprising the full spectrum of draw wieghts with several shooting warbows, but the emphasis is always on having fun rather than stress!
As well as a bit of target archery they shoot at the marks on courses they set out for themselves (including one mark that looks like a bearded Marilyn Monroe!).
The Bowmen of the Blue Lion usually meet on Saturdays for what is as much a social as a sporting event. After a full morning and early afternoon of shooting, they carry on the day at a local inn, where they sit down to dinner and a few beers.
As well as strong sporting and social aspects, they also take part in medieval events both in the UK and Germany. At these events they give demonstrations of a medieval archers kit and what it was capable of.
